Metal VGs

The aluminum pipes are anodized, inside and out. The anodized layer is thick and durable, which provides good resistance to chemical corrosion and reactivity. There is absolutely no need to be concerned about aluminum exposure. You can read about anodizing here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anodizing

Stainless Coil VG

This innovative, patent-pending bat-style pipe is made of stainless steel wire coils, precisely manufactured so that they attach by twisting/screwing. The coil pipe comprises 5 coils-two in the bottom (bowl) half, and three in the filter (top) portion. The two halves of the pipe fit together by twisting/screwing.

The stainless steel coil pipe has some interesting features:
1) The coil pipe has 100% stainless steel construction. There is no wood, aluminum, adhesive or any other material in this pipe (other than the ceramic filter, of course). Therefore, both top and bottom can be cleaned with solvents.
2) The coil pipe can be completely disassembled by hand, by unscrewing the steel coils. This means disassembly is easy, and each component can be cleaned separately. The ceramic filter can be removed, and hit with a torch to completely burn off soot if necessary. The glass sherlock VG, glass bat VG, and this coil pipe are the only pipes that have removable ceramic filters.
3) The coil pipe is thermally insulated, due to an air gap between the inner and outer coils. Therefore, the outser surface does not become hot. The coil pipe stays much cooler than the aluminum Bat VG.
4) The coil pipe uses flame heat very efficiently, since it is so well insulated. This makes it good to use in cold weather. It also means a slightly smaller flame can be used. The coil pipe tends to run hotter than our other pipes, since little heat is lost to the outer surfaces.

The coil pipe has some limitations that buyers should be aware of:
1) The flame intake hole is on the endface, not the side like in the aluminum bat. This makes it a little harder to locate the flame properly. We dont think this is a big issue, however, since the shape of the coil pipe provides some visibility.
2) The coil pipe is flexible and can be damaged by creating a permanent bend in the coils. However, the wire size is pretty large (0.050") so this will not happen with normal use, or from putting the pipe in your pocket or something. Even stepping on the pipe does not cause permanent deformation of the coils, so we consider this to be a theoretical concern. However, stepping on the pipe will crush the ceramic filter, FYI.
3) The coil pipe is flexible. Bending it causes gaps to open between the coils. Therefore, bowl contents can spill from these gaps when the pipe is bent.

Spare replacement coils are available at reasonable cost if customers need replacements.

We are excited about this new vaporizing pipe. Please send us comments and suggestions.

Stainless Coil VG - Thinner Wire

$20.00

Special sale on the first run thinner wire coil VGs. Not too many left of these.

Stainless Coil VG - Thicker Wire

$35.00

This is the new thicker wire coil VG. The wire is 24% thicker in diameter, but the pipe is roughly the same size. The two coil VGs are the exactly the same, the only difference being the diameter of the wire that they are made from.

Stainless Steel Bat

$65.00

The stainless steel bat provides portability and convenience, but they are quite a bit heavier than the aluminum bats (153 grams instead of 57 grams). They are 4.5 inches long, and only 7/8 inches in diameter at the widest points. The stainless Bat VG will easily fit in your pocket. They are CNC-machined from solid stainless steel barstock, and then sanded and buffed to a nearly mirror finish. They are beautiful.

Every single part (except the ceramic filter) in this pipe is made of stainless steel: the pipe, filter body, screen, screen support coil, and heat-shielding elements inside the filter are all made of stainless. This pipe is highly resistant to corrosion and nearly indestructible.

The pipe portion is easily cleaned with pipecleaners or the VG wire brush, since the hole is straight.

Compared with the aluminum bat, the stainless steel bat 1) is heaver, 2) is more durable, 3) does not become as hot, and 4) is more resistant to corrosion.

Aluminum Pipe VG

$60.00

These pipes have a CNC machined and anodized aluminum pipe body. We think they are beautiful. They come with the same top we use on the Classic VG.  You can have any classic top you want (colored, flame finished, clear finish or waxed). We think the Black or Teak top looks best. If you want a different top, select "other" and let us know what top you want in the customer note section at the end of checkout.

The bottom has a deep stainless steel bowl press fit into the aluminum body. The bowl is the same size and depth as the bowl of the aluminum bat VG and the handcarved pipes.

These pipes offer a number of advantages compared to our other models:
1) The aluminum base can be easily cleaned by soaking in a pipe-cleaning solvent such as alcohol or hot soapy water. This is not possible with any of the wooden pipes.
2) The pipe is not as tall as the classic VGs (height of 2.1" versus 2.8"), because the bowl is sunk into the pipe body. This improves the ergonomics slightly, because the the air intake hole is a little lower and therefore easier to see. That makes it easier to position the flame correctly.

In use, these pipes require approximately the same amount of flame application as our other pipes. The wood top provides good thermal insulation. The stainless steel bowl is insulated from the aluminum by a layer of air, so the aluminum does not heat up very much. It will become pleasantly warm after several tokes.

However, these pipes are heavier than the Classic Handcarved VGs. They weigh 3.7 ounces (110 grams), compared to 2.0 ounces (57 grams) for the handcarved pipes.

Length from center of bowl to mouthtip is 4.25 inches. Total length is 5 inches (not including the optional black mouthpiece).

The Aluminum Pipe VGs require the old-style 3/16" Mouthpieces (1 included).

Aluminum Bat VG

$40.00

The Aluminum Bat VG is out of stock and will be for some time. Check back around July or like us on Facebook to know more about when these pipes will return.

The Aluminum Bat VG was designed to provide the ultimate in portability and convenience. They are 4.5 inches long, and only 7/8 inches in diameter at the widest points. The aluminum Bat VG will easily fit in your pocket. The Aluminum Bat VGs weigh only 57 grams. They have a CNC machined and anodized aluminum pipe body and filter body.

The pipe portion is made of a single piece of solid aluminum. So the bowl is aluminum, not stainless steel. The bowl has the same stainless steel screen and stainless steel wire coil that is used in all VaporGenie pipes. The bowl is deep (the same size and depth as the Aluminum pipe VGs or handcarved VGs). The male threads on the filter part are stainless steel.

In October 2010 we improved the design of the bat pipes by adding a stainless steel insert that provides internal thermal insulation. This greatly reduces the tendency of the bat pipes to become hot. However, since the bat pipes are made of metal, they may become hot after extended use (5-6 tokes), like any other metal smoking pipe. The tendency to heat up varies with flame size, inhalation rate, and of course ambient temperature. This design change also improves the vaporizing performance because more heat goes into the bowl and your tobacco. All the bat now have this improved design. We have applied for a patent on the improvement.

The Aluminum VaporGenie is my 2nd vaporizer, the 1st was an Aroma Classic, which I regretted purchasing, after several uses, I've been using the VG for several weeks and am very, happy with it. I have more control over the heating of the tobacco, I can use less tobacco and it is easier to load and stir the tobacco, and there is no constraint of an electric cord or a long, hooka like, hose. The Teak/Aluminum VG is also, good looking. Having been a pack a day smoker for about 40 years, vaporizing the tobacco and ingesting the nicotine vapor, and not the smoke, with its nasty stuff, has to be much, better for my health. I've been using a disposable butane lighter, so, I've been careful, with the flame. After an initial, use or two, I had noticed what appeared to be a tiny, narrow, half moon shape, area of soot(?), dark, black in color, near the edge; after several, more uses I happened to look closely, once again at the ceramic and it appeared to have disappeared. I recommend VaporGenie.

For the aluminum bat VG: the air intake is too big in diameter & too long... it's good to be able to suck vapor into the mouth first & then inhale so that the lungs are not scorched/damaged by heat. However, with this bat, the air intake has such a big diameter that sucking into the mouth first (using the mouth as a cooling chamber) is impractical.

Having been spoiled by the glass VG, which I purchased the Stainless Steel Bat to replace, (breakage totally my fault) I was somewhat skeptical as to whether or not I'd fully enjoy it as much. Of course my doubts were unfounded. My flame control took a little bit longer to master, but after 2 sets of 4 hits I was getting every bit of vapor without fear of burning the product inside or my hands. In fact, I'd go as far as to say it's harder for me to accidentally burn the product with the Stainless than the Glass since I haven't yet. As far as keeping the piece cool during sessions, if you just time your hit so that about 30% of it is spent sucking in cool air after the vapor's stopped, it'll almost eliminate the heat gained during that hit before it has a chance to disperse into the outer surface. Cooling that inner core before the heat can transfer to the surface is key, and what makes it better than just a smaller VaporGenie. This thing was worth waiting for. Good job VG team.
